Upper Elementary Students and the Montessori Model United Nations

Our upper elementary students recently traveled to New York City to participate in the Montessori Model United Nations.

In the early hours of March 4, our upper elementary students boarded an Amtrak train to New York City to participate in a Montessori Model United Nation (MMUN). Adams Montessori School has been fortunate to participate in this program since 2009. As UN delegates, our students represented the country of Georgia, located in the Caucasus region of Europe and Asia.  They debated real issues that affect people around the world. After months of research which included reading a background guide on the issues, reading some sophisticated articles and, at times, reviewing actual UN resolutions, students wrote a position paper. This two-page paper then was condensed to a one-minute speech (and not a second over) and presented to a group of forty students in their committee sessions.
